RANGERS INTERNATIONAL FC WOMEN SET TO COMPETE IN NWFL PREMIERSHIP

Rangers International FC Women are set to compete in the 2026/2027 Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) Premiership, following the acquisition of the league slot of Dannaz Ladies of Lagos.

Rangers International FC Women are set to compete in the 2026/2027 Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) Premiership, following the acquisition of the league slot of Dannaz Ladies of Lagos. Rangers General Manager/CEO, Barr. Amobi Paulinus Ezeaku, disclosed this during a press briefing at the club’s corporate headquarters on Wednesday, revealing that approximately 80 per cent of discussions surrounding the acquisition have been concluded. He also announced that an open screening exercise for players interested in joining the women’s team will commence soon as preparations intensify for the new season. Mr. Kenechukwu Chime will continue as Director of the Women’s Team, while Mr. Gozie Onu will serve as Team Manager. Coach Favour Aneke, who led the team during it Championship campaign, will remain in charge as Head Coach. Former Super Falconets captain, Gloria Ofoegbu, will serve as Assistant Coach 1, with Mr. Amarachukwu Agwu appointed Assistant Coach 2. Ezeaku assured that the women’s team would receive the same level of attention, support and recognition accorded to the men’s team, stressing the club’s determination to build a strong and competitive side capable of making a mark in the top flight. On the team’s home ground, the Rangers CEO disclosed that the Awka City Stadium in Awka, Anambra State, remains an option for the women’s home fixtures. However, he reiterated the club’s preference to have the women play at the same venues as the men whenever possible. He further revealed that plans are underway to fully integrate the women’s team into the Rangers structure following the completion of the renovation of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, popularly known as “The Cathedral.” The development marks another significant step in Rangers International FC’s commitment to strengthening its women’s football structure and expanding the club’s presence across all levels of the game.
