A foreign scouting delegation led by FIFA-licensed agent Philip Mbah has visited Rangers FC of Enugu to evaluate young players for possible international transfers. The exercise began on Monday, January 5, 2025, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu. It featured training and match sessions, after which the scouts expressed satisfaction with the quality of players on display. The delegation later paid a courtesy visit to the President and Managing Director of Rangers FC, Barrister Amobi Ezeaku, at his office. While receiving the visitors, Ezeaku spoke on the club’s history, achievements, and challenges, noting Rangers’ long-standing reputation for producing players who go on to play abroad. He commended Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah for his consistent support of the club and his commitment to football development in the state. Ezeaku explained that revenue from player transfers benefits the state government and other stakeholders in the football ecosystem, while also contributing to broader economic growth. He emphasized the need for stronger collaboration among stakeholders and football supporters, pointing to existing partnerships between the club and local brands. He disclosed that the club recently established the Rangers Foundation, chaired by senior police officer Ebere Amaraizu, with Prince Engr. Arthur Eze serving as its grand patron. According to him, partnerships are key to achieving the club’s long-term goals, adding that his administration remains open to collaboration. Ezeaku thanked the scouting team for the visit and called for a repeat of the exercise, saying it would inspire young players and open more development opportunities for the club. Also present was the Secretary of Nkanu West Local Government Area, Prince Barrister Onochie Igwesi, who praised the scouts for choosing Enugu. He highlighted Governor Peter Mbah’s strong interest in the rebranded Rangers and credited Ezeaku with carrying out a major overhaul that has helped restore the club’s status. Igwesi noted the renewed pride among fans, recalling that it was once uncommon to see people in the Southeast wearing Rangers jerseys. He said the situation has changed, with supporters now proudly donning the club’s colors across Enugu, and large crowds turning out whenever the team plays. Speaking for the delegation, Philip Mbah said his team conducts international scouting tours every quarter and decided to include Rangers FC this season based on the club president’s persuasion. He said he was impressed by the talent observed and expressed confidence about future engagements with the club. In response to requests for another scouting round, Mbah assured that a second exercise would take place around March or July 2026. Other members of the delegation from Portugal and Hungary also praised the players, noting that their focus is on African football and describing Nigeria as a strong scouting destination. They expressed hope that some of the players would eventually earn opportunities to play in Europe. The visit concluded with the presentation of Rangers FC jerseys to the scouting team and a guided tour of the club’s offices led by Barrister Amobi Ezeaku.
