NWFL Championship: Rangers Women Begin Promotion Quest Against Unification FC

Rangers women will begin the battle to clinch the NWFL ticket tomorrow when they face off with UNIFICATION FC at St. Patrick Stadium, Calabar by 9am. This game comes on the heels of a series of impressive results for the Rangers Babes.

Rangers International Women Football Club will begin their quest for promotion to the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership on Saturday when they take on Unification FC at the St. Patrick Stadium, Calabar. The highly anticipated Group stage encounter is scheduled to kick off at 9:00 a.m. as the Flying Does look to make a winning start to their championship campaign. Rangers head into the tournament on the back of an encouraging run of performances. The Enugu side recorded several impressive results in preparation for the competition, including a notable victory over NWFL Premiership side Abia Angels earlier this year. Their last competitive outing ended in a spirited 3-2 defeat to top-flight side Robo Queens in the President Federation Cup Round of 32, a performance that further demonstrated the team's growing quality and competitiveness. Coach Favour Aneke's youthful side has continued to impress in a series of tune-up fixtures and will be aiming to translate that form into a positive result against the experienced Lagos-based outfit. Unification FC, who boast a blend of experienced and young players, are no strangers to the NWFL Championship and will be looking to use that experience to gain an early advantage. Speaking ahead of the encounter, Rangers Women's Technical Adviser, Coach Favour Aneke, acknowledged the quality of the opposition but maintained that his team is ready for the challenge. "Unification FC are a very strong Lagos side with championship-experienced players and a sound coaching staff. This is our debut season with a very young and disciplined squad. Regardless, this is Rangers, and we don't run away from a fight." The coach also addressed the weather conditions in Calabar, insisting they would not serve as an excuse. "Calabar is rainy and much colder than Enugu, where we are used to sunny conditions. We believe the girls will acclimatise and adjust well before the game. Rangers don't give excuses." Aneke further expressed confidence in his squad's mentality, revealing that there are no injury concerns ahead of the must-win opener. "It's a very young squad, and some of the girls are experiencing a professional football environment like this for the first time, so naturally there are psychological challenges. As for injuries, we have no worries. At Rangers, we don't make excuses. The mission is the mission." With confidence high in the camp and promotion firmly in sight, Rangers Women will be eager to begin their NWFL Championship journey with all three points against a formidable Unification FC side.
